The Center for Assistive for Assistive, Rehabilitation, & Robotics Technologies (CARRT, http://carrt.eng.usf.edu/) within the Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking for a Rehabilitation Engineer to work in Tallahassee, FL area. This position is funded by the State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
Assigned duties include:
Identify and develop regional private/public partnerships
Review and monitor services provided by external RT providers
Coordinate services from external RT service providers
Manage time and resources to ensure efficient delivery of RT services in assigned region
Assess the functional limitations of individuals referred by Vocational Rehabilitation counselors
Furnish rehabilitation technology assessment reports and consultation
Facilitate counselor contact with specialized vendors
Plan, design and coordinate the fabrication and installation of specialized work stations and associated equipment
Collaborate with other rehabilitation professionals in planning, designing, coordinating and approving the fabrication and completion of vehicle modifications
Coordinate the installation and final fitting of associated modifications
Inspect, evaluate and qualify vendors of RT services and products
Maintain an up to date directory of certified vendors
Provide periodic training to VR counselors

This position is funded by non-recurring funds and is conditioned upon the continuation of those funds. This appointment is considered temporary and in the event funds are discontinued or reduced, this appointment may end or result in a reduction of FTE (full time equivalent). No other notice of terminationwill be provided. Annual leave accrued during the life of the contract/grant must be taken during the life of that contract/grant or funds must be available in the contract/grant at the time of separation of the employee or the end of the contract/grant, to cover payment of earned annual leave for that portion of the appointment that is contract/grant funded. You may be required to take annual leave at your supervisor’s discretion.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Rehabilitation Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field.
The ideal candidate should have expertise in Rehabilitation Technology, planning, policy and design. Experience in vocational rehabilitation and designing technologies for individuals with disabilities preferred. Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) ATP Certification preferred.
