Assists school staff, parents and students with disabilities as well as Central Office Personnel in planning, evaluating, selecting, training and acquiring assistive technology devices and software. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develops, updates and implements written procedures for the evaluation, selection, training and acquisition of assistive technology devices and software.
Assists school and central office staff in evaluation, selection, training and acquisition of assistive technology devices, and software.
Collects data and prepares necessary reports as it relates to students with disabilities receiving assistive technology devices and software.
Trains multidisciplinary teams/IEP Service Providers in diagnostic/prescriptive education assessments that will inform decisions on assistive/instructional technology devices and software which enhance meaningful access to and learning in the state curriculum.
Researches and develops alternative sources of funding through grants for technology devices and technical assistance.
Assists school staff in the interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures governing the evaluation, selection, training and acquisition of assistive technology devices and software.
Assists the school system to identify new devices aligned to UDL principles, strategies and/or trends that will maximize results in the field of AT.
As one of the AT transdisciplinary team members, assists the AT Team in the use of Assistive Technology devices and software to support access to the general education curriculum.
Assists in training students with disabilities, their parents and school-based staff in the use of assistive technology devices and software.
Assists in training teacher assistants/Para Educators to support students using assistive technology devices and software.

Hold or be eligible for licensure as an Occupational Therapist from the Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice with additional certification/coursework in the area of assistive technology. OR
Hold or be eligible for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist from the Maryland State Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers and Speech Language Pathologists. OR
Hold or be eligible for Maryland State Board of Education professional certificate as a Special Education Teacher.
Three (3) years of successful experience within an educational setting planning for and implementing assistive technology for students with disabilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expertise in the area of Assistive Technology and Instructional Technology.
Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning and 21st Century technology integration.
Demonstrated leadership qualities as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work and effectively communicate with diverse populations.
Ability to use instructional technology hardware such as document cameras, presenters, and Smart Boards.
Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licensed Occupational Therapist OR
Licensed Speech Language Pathologist OR
Certified Special Education Teacher
Possess a valid Motor Vehicle operator’s license and have daily access to a car.
