The Adaptive Equipment Designer is responsible for evaluating, designing, fabricating and fitting custom adaptive equipment for PRHC patients (children and young adults). The Adaptive Equipment Designer will provide thorough custom equipment evaluations for patients (in consideration of disability, abilities, rehabilitative and functional goals) and generate product design options using multiple modalities as indicated (drawings, computer aided design, three dimensional prototypes). The Designer will fabricate device prototypes to analyze device effectiveness according to established criteria and will collaborate with Adaptive Equipment Technicians and Rehab Engineering Clinical staff to produce final versions of custom equipment for patients’ use. The types of adaptive equipment needs to be addressed include (but are not limited to): wheeled mobility positioning components and accessories, wheelchair trays, computer access technology, communication equipment mounts, devices for activities of daily living, educational/classroom aids, health supports, environmental modifications to promote function and access, electronic aids for daily living (EADLs), recreational and vocational equipment. The Adaptive Equipment Designer performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Director of Rehab Engineering.
