1.Provide comprehensive, team-based augmentative communication evaluations to authorized clients of the Division of Developmental Disabilities and fee-for-service AAC assessments. The AAC evaluation/assessment process includes the following: 2.Provide follow up AAC training to authorized DDD clients at a location acceptable to the client/family within timeliness required by funding source. 3.Support the operation of the Institute for Human Development (IHD) AAC Program 4.Coordinate with NAU’s Speech Communication Disorders (CSD) Clinic regarding training opportunities; supervise SLP/A Student(s) assigned to AAC Program 5.Support other AAC or Assistive Technology (AT) related activities of the IHD AT Center such as educational training/labs for NAU students, faculty and Flagstaff community and AAC device demonstrations as time permits. 6.Travel when authorized to all regions of the state to provide AAC services. 7.Track and enter funder/IHD required data into data collections systems. 8.Develop and share a weekly schedule with Director, Program Coordinator and team members. 9.Other duties as assigned. 10.Position reports to the AzTAP Program Director.
Minimum Qualifications: •Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology/Communication Sciences •Current American Speech Language Hearing Association SLP Certificate in Clinical Competencies •Arizona SLP License •Three years experience working with individuals having a broad range speech/communication disorders in various settings •One year AAC experience working directly with clients who use AAC devices
Preferred Qualifications: •A 1000 hours over 6 years of direct work experience providing AAC evaluations and follow-up training for clients with complex communication disorders. •In-depth knowledge of the range of commercially available communication devices, including device features and operations. •Expertise in matching the client’s expressive and receptive language needs across environments with the features and characteristics of commercially available augmentative communication devices including operating systems, language systems and accessories. •Skilled in generating professional quality, comprehensive written evaluations justifying medical necessity for the device recommendations. •Expertise in providing follow-up training to the clients and their family members in the set up and use of the device after it the client receives it. This requires the SLP to be knowledgeable about the hardware and language system software/apps for each device recommended. •Knowledge of AT related funding resources. •RESNA ATP Certification or AT Certificate from approved postsecondary organization.
