The College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking applications for a Post-Doc fellowship position. The College of Rehabilitation Sciences consists of three departments: Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Respiratory Therapy. It offers professional education programs in each discipline, in addition to a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences and together with the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management, a PhD in Applied Health Sciences. The College has a vibrant research program focused primarily in five clusters: people with mobility and physical activity challenges; people with chronic conditions and diseases; Indigenous Peoples health; inter-professional collaborative and client-centered education and practice; and education research and scholarship. Three streams were identified that run through each cluster: technology; continuum of health; and issues of living in northern, rural and remote environments. The clusters represent a coalescence of faculty research and researchers around key areas of importance to the College and constituents of the College.
This Postdoctoral position will be focused on research related to (assistive) technology/environment interface. Environment is defined as per the ICF to include physical, technological, natural, health systems and services, social supports, institutional/legal, and attitudinal environments. Multiple research projects that address this interface are currently underway or in early stages of development. This position will provide the opportunity to:
Develop expertise in assistive technology/environment/participation theory, work with a wide variety of stakeholders (e.g. policy makers, consumers organizations, knowledge users, industry); work with multi-disciplinary teams related to specific areas of interest (e.g., engineering, architecture, respiratory therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy; experts in knowledge translation); work with new and emerging technologies that have potential for improving the quality of life and participation of people with disabilities; and develop strong academic skills through involvement in writing for publication, grant writing and knowledge translation.
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences, Community Health Sciences or a closely related field, as well as a strong publication record. It is important that the applicant is capable of independent work, and possesses exceptional interpersonal/communication skills as working with a variety of organizations and individuals will figure prominently in this position. General knowledge of the practice areas of PT, OT and RT would be an asset. The candidate is furthermore expected to provide leadership for more junior members of our research groups. There is considerable room for the postdoc to provide vision and give direction to the projects.
Salary: The salary is approximately $40,000 CAD per year plus benefits.
Start date: The actual start date is negotiable but we would like the successful applicant to start as soon as possible.
